Why Metalic Taste Kiwi

Finally I have it in my hands! Have been years of searching without success they have solved at a stroke as a birthday present (thanks Dr. Lomus! Thanks!).

This title collects manga adaptation of the film same name by Katsuhiro Otomo and graphic adaptation was commissioned as an almost complete unknown at the time, called Satoshi Kon.

The story revolves around a Yakuza member who was responsible to vacate an apartment block that is full of illegal immigrants coming from various parts of Asia, in order to sell the land. Try them out in various ways, but the result always ends up being funny, until strange things start happening around the apartment involving Itta firsthand.

As you can see, is a work that combines comedy and paranormal genre, some would characterize as terror, but I saw the movie and did not seem scary, all mixed with the issue of xenophobia in Japan. Although I was not expecting too much, is a very entertaining movie (and features music of X Japan), of course, the manga is not far behind.

Kon's drawing, at times vaguely reminiscent of Otomo, not in vain, Otomo had him under his wing until ample time made the big step of becoming an animation director with "Perfect Blue" (film originally offered it to Katsuhiro Otomo, but this was rejected, recommending Kon). The manga has subtle differences from the film and it shows a little precipitate. Some aspects are much more clear in the film, yet it is a pleasure to read a manga of these two. And after having spent so much time behind this volume.

seems like yesterday when I got interested in this title, as it had begun to discover the works of Otomo, but I'm not too obsessed by the find, although with the passing of time I was seeing more movies Satoshi Kon, was when I went looking forward to reading this collaboration between these two masters of manga and animation. But given the date of publication of the English edition (the first half of 90), was a title that was more than print.

I think it goes without saying that he had almost lost hope of finding it, the only way he saw to get this title was by a reissue, and as is collecting works on paper by Satoshi Kon because of his death this summer, looked possible. Although so far no publisher has shown interest in these titles, only "Planeta de Agostini" (who in turn was responsible for the release of this manga and "Return to the Sea", also from Kon) has shown a minimum public interest, although so far no news at all.
